Heaven or Earth…Which One Are You Aiming For?

I've heard it said that "Christians must be careful not to become so heavenly minded that they become no earthly good."  That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of.  Seriously.

I find Paul more helpful: "Set your mind on things above, not on things of earth" (Col. 3:2).  Our problem today isn't Christians who think too long and hard on unending fellowship with God in the New Heavens and Earth, but rather Christians who've become so earthly-minded that they actually think this is their home, and consequently are of little use to Jesus while they're here.  Don't believe me?  Take it away Lewis...

If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next.  The Apostles themselves, who set on foot the conversion of the Roman Empire, the great men who built up the Middle Ages, the English Evangelicals who abolished the Slave Trade, all left their mark on Earth, precisely because their minds were occupied with Heaven.  It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this.  Aim at Heaven and you will get earth "thrown in": aim at earth and you will get neither.

Would someone following you around for a week become convinced that you're not long for this world?  It just begs the question...what are you aiming for?
